The tradition of social clubs choosing beaux (for the women’s clubs) and queens (for the men’s clubs) dates back to the 1950s. In the early years, clubs honored one person a year to serve as beau or queen for their club.

Nowadays, it’s not unusual to see clubs with anywhere from two to twelve beaux/queens. This can lead to a race to see which club can “beau” or “queen” a person before another club snatches them up.

Beaux and Queens provide encouragement, function entertainment, and sometimes even cookies for the members of the clubs they serve. They are an integral part of the modern social club at Harding.
